01. Project Description
This project is a magazine layout focused on the intricate architecture of the Alhambra in Granada, Spain—a historic palace complex blending Nasrid, Islamic, and later Christian influences. Known for its elaborate geometric carvings, delicate arabesques, and striking architectural harmony, the Alhambra stands as a masterpiece of Moorish design.
The challenge of this layout was balancing the intricate details of the palace’s carvings with thoughtful composition. Every image highlights the fine craftsmanship, requiring a careful approach to when text should take a backseat and let the visuals speak for themselves.
The color palette—cream, brown, dark brown, and white—posed another challenge, as these tones naturally evoke an aged, historical feel rather than a modern aesthetic. To maintain authenticity, the typography leans into this old-world character, using serif fonts and Arabic-inspired lettering instead of forcing a contemporary look that would feel out of place. The result is a design that honors the Alhambra’s timeless elegance, staying true to its historic essence rather than adapting it to modern aesthetics.
